Last year I introduced you to the Ghostly iPhone app, which picked music for you based on your mood. Now they have taken this service online with Ghostly Discovery. Just set your mood by using the sliders and Ghostly picks music suiting that mood from their Ghostly Records database. A very nice way to discover new music. Wish it would go further than just their database though. iTunes or Spotify integration anyone?

Arcade Fire is taking video clips to the next level. I think this video for their track The Wilderness Downtown is one of the most creative music videos I’ve ever seen. And even the track is pretty good.

Entirely built in HTML5 and built for Google Chrome, it shows an entirely new of making music videos. If you haven’t done it yet, see for yourself. Just enter the adress of where you grew up and enjoy!

Days like these need some good music. So meet Seabear. Seabear is proof that Iceland does bring good things, instead of credit crises and ash. This Indie band from Reykjavik has delivered an amazing album in We Built A Fire. Very nice tunes that I would describe as easy listening Indy Pop,  with the occasional surprise. What makes Seabear stand out from other Indy bands is the broad range of instruments used in the tracks; Brass, violins and rock guitars are all present.

In short: Cool album. Worth more than one spin.

Last week Kitsune Noir pointed me to the album Deep Sleep by Catacombkid (a.k.a. Harrison Mills), and boy was he right. What an amazing album. Catacombkid’s  music is best described as dark, dreamy hip hop with a hint of pop. Catch my drift? This is one of those albums you put on repeat and have it play all day without it becoming annoying. And as a true next-level musician Catacombkid has made the album available for free. Go get it here!

Ever since my friends of P.Y.T. mailed this to me yesterday it has been on repeat continuously. Which means I just have to share this with you. A nice and happy mix to get you through this Thursday!

I have been looking forward to Jamie Lidell’s new album Compass for a while, and finally it has arrived. I must say that I had to listen to it a couple of times to get it. And i am still learning to love it. It’s a complicated album. Far less accessible than the previous soulful Jim album. Compass builds on this soul direction Lidell has taken, but takes it to a far more experimental level.

Complex tracks with lots of different samples, and many different ‘sounds’ between the tracks. Ranging from the R&B’ish ‘She Needs Me to the deep and dark ‘Big Drift’ and ‘You See My Light’. Maybe the fact that Lidell has collaborated with a whole range of different artist explain the big differences between the tracks. The album was written in just one month, and was recorded in the studio’s of Beck and Feist. Other influences also include Gonzales, Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear and Pat Sansone of Wilco.

After listening to it three times or so it is still growing on me, and I am liking it more each time. Give it a shot, and let me know what you think.

It has been quite the wait, but finally Massive Attack have launched their new album: Heligoland. And I must say it was worth it. I have had it playing in the background for a couple of days. Heligoland sounds comfortably familiar, hard to capture in one genre and with the twist of darkness we are used to. Verdict: Great quality album, and already among the favorites of 2010.

It’s been a while since I last posted on music. The reason for this is that I haven’t found any albums worth mentioning lately. That was before I heard Down The Way by Angus & Julia Stone. What an album!

Angus & Julia have taken their familiar dreamy folk sound and have perfected it, making Down The Way and ideal Sunday morning chill album, although I can also see myself playing this record over and over driving to the south of France for a surfing holiday. Happy listening!

I only learned of J. Dilla after he died 4 years ago. I got my hands on Donuts through a friend, and was hooked right away. Ever since I have been digging further into the work of this hip-hop prodigy. Stussy has now made a very nice documentary on Dilla. In this 3 part piece his life and work are illustrated and discussed by people who where close to the man.

It consists of 3 parts, of which only the first two part have been released up to date, but they are incredibly interesting. Check them out below:
