My friends over at THEY have created a really cool mobile app for the holidays: Avoid The Crowds.

We all know those days when you’re shoulder to shoulder in the main shopping streets and stores. This app aggregates all social checkins for these main areas and tells you whether or not you should avoid a certain area. At the moment its for Amsterdam only, but expect it to go to other cities and moments (e.g. Avoid The Beach)

Ever since Steve jobs announced he had ‘cracked’ the future of TV it has become somewhat of a hot topic. All of a sudden there are concepts popping up everywhere. Like GOAB, in the clip above by SyZyGy. I must say this looks pretty awesome. Have a look.

All data available on all devices looks pretty awesome. Unfortunately I believe that this will not happen anytime soon because all major media corporations will start defending their channels. I hope they’ll realize that collaboration can make this truly great, but I expect them to all start inventing their own ‘wheel’.

Meet Clibe. The ultimate iPad notebook app. Although I believe nothing will ever replace my Moleskine, this is an app that comes closest of all the ones I’ve tried.

Clibe is a cloud based notebook, meaning that everything you create on your iPad is accessible from your PC as well. But what makes Clibe better than all the other note apps out there is that it allows you to scribble, type and draw very easily. Select the kind of paper you want (blank, ruled or checked), everything is possible. Add to this that you can add pictures from your iPad or imported from Facebook and you have a cool app.

You can also share notebooks with others. Allowing you to easily share your ideas and collaborate.

Summarizing: Go get it. As long as it is still in Beta the app is downloadable for free so be quick!

This morning I woke up with the news that Steve Jobs had passed away. The man that revolutionized computing, music and mobile phones. The man that made being a nerd cool. A true loss for the world.

Besides the products there is another thing for which I’d like to thank him: His 2005 Stanford speech. We all have these moments that we need a little help and advice, and I usually grab back to this one. Have a look and remember.

It only exists for 10 years, but its impact has been huge: Wikipedia. For their tenth anniversary they made this nice film together with Jess 3 (whom you might remember from this movie). The movie explains how Wikipedia started, how it works, who works on it etc. Very interesting! Have a look for yourself!

Here’s a cool little something for the monday afternoon: ‘Dead Drops’. Dead Drops is an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. The principle is very simple: USB flash drives are embedded into walls, buildings and curbs accessible to anybody in public space. Everyone is invited to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data.

Each dead drop is installed empty except a readme.txt file explaining the project. ‘Dead Drops’ is open to for everyone, and you can install one yourself. To install a dead drop in your city/neighborhood follow the ‘how to’ instructions and submit the location and pictures. Easy as that.

Interesting stuff, and I believe things like this are closer than we might expect.

Our world is being taken over by rectangular screens like phones, computer and tablets. Besides the obvious benefits of these, they also provide entirely new ways of making art. And thats just what the guys and galls at Dentsu London did. They took an iPad to create these amazing images.

They have developed photographic and animation techniques that draw moving 3-dimensional typography and objects with an iPad. In dark environments, the iPad plays movies that extrude 3-d light forms as they move through the exposure, turning it into a ’3-d light printer’. Multiple exposures with slightly different movies make up the stop-frame animation.

And the results are amazing. A job well done!
