Great ad for the Mini Clubman, the larger brother of the Mini. The coolest thing is, the concept came from two students at the Miami Ad School, Maximilian Pinegger and Justin Salice-Stephan. Great work.
Here’s another smart campaign using Google AdWords. This time Converse takes advantage of the smart ad system in their Domaination campaign. Check out the movie below.
Advertising is following you everywhere, and as long as it is smart like this Sand Printer, I really don’t mind. The idea is as simple as it is brilliant. Zana Design has developed this big wheel with text on the outsides. If you start walking insinde the wheel, like a hamster, the letters will be pressed in the sand leaving a text behind on the beach.
Simple, smart and after one wave everything is back as it was. Great idea!
As you know, I think digital and strongly believe the future of advertising will be (largely) digital too. This doesn’t mean that traditional media, like billboards, will be gone in the future. There will always be room for great creativity. Especially if they are as good as the ones below.
Tonight I’m checking out the award winning documentary Art & Copy by Doug Pray. It reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time – people who have influenced our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. All these guys started in advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s.
These artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for lines ingrained in our minds like “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.
Looking forward to this one! Here’s the trailer for now.
Update: Great documentary, although I expected a little more on the social impact of advertising. Nevertheless, go check it out!
Today I learned that you mustn’t throw away your old, re-useable calendars. Why? It turns out that you can use the same calendar every 28 years… Everything is recyclable nowadays! Just so you know.
Euro RSCG Milan has turned this fact into a campaign for Italian environmental organization Legambiente.
Google, the company which on it’s own has revolutionized the way advertising works, is now switching to old school TV ads… This ad below will be aired during the Superbowl tonight:
I must say I like the ad, but one question pops into my mind and keeps getting louder: Why is the company that is partly responsible for killing old advertising models going to air a TV ad for tons of money when every American is taking a piss or grabbing some fresh drinks? Isn’t it a bit like Bill Gates using an iPhone? What do you think?
Do you love old ads? Then look no further! On Vintage Ad Browser you can currently search through 123.331 (and counting) print ads, sourced from multiple sources. Ranging from food to toys and from fashion to war-propaganda, it’s all there. A great source of inspiration, and loads of fun to browse. The browser was created by Philipp Lenssen last year and will surely be a massive success! Great work Philip! Hours of fun guaranteed. Now go and browse for yourselves!
If you’d got a budget of just $500 to promote an optics retailer except laughing? The guys at Mccann Erickson Israel took the challenge and show us the power of the web and creative thinking. Check out the movie below:
In october of 2009 Absolut wanted to push the launch of their Absolut Rock bottle, which is a part of their ‘In An Absolut World campaign. For this particular campaign they worked with rock photographer Danny Clinch, whose vision ‘In An Absolut World you are with the band’ came to life through an intimate picture-portrait of the band Wolfmother.
The best pictures where selected and printed on huge canvases (up to 240 sq/m big) which where placed in cities like Munich, Cologne and Hamburg. Through Absolut.com an audio guide could be downloaded providing you with the necessary info and entertainment while taking the tour.
Very nice campaign if you ask me. A very nice use of mobile technology. The only question I have is why the accompanying map still had to be printed, and there wasn’t an integrated map in a branded app…
