The Auteurs

#1: Why can’t you watch In the Mood for Love in a café in Tokyo on your laptop?
#2: Why is it so hard to meet people who share the same love for Antonioni?
#3: Wouldn’t it be great to instantly send Tati’s Playtime to a friend if you think they needed it? (There’s nothing like film therapy!)
#4: Why do films on the internet just look awful?
#5: Why are we talking as if we were John Cusack in High Fidelity?

These are the five questions that lay at the base of The Auteurs. The Auteurs is an amazing online destination for lovers of independent, foreign and classic film; the ones your local multiplex movie watching factory doesn’t play. An online cinema, anytime, anywhere.

The Auteurs will give you the latest buzz from the Cannes Film Festival or a restored masterpiece personally chosen by Martin Scorsese (he’s a member, too!). A social network that allows you to find a girl in Tokyo who loves Kubrick. The Auteurs enables you to watch, discover and discuss distinctive films from all over the world which would otherwise have passed you by quietly.

Watching a movie will cost you though. So far, I haven’t found any movies over $5,- which I think is a decent price. Going to the cinema of renting the DVD will set you back just as much. I think these guys have found a nice niche market for now, but I’m afraid it is just a matter of time before iTunes or Netflix will take over markets like these. But before that happens, these guys have built a great place for every movie lover out there!

Untitled

untitled_movie_posterSmall indie movie Untitled tells the story a of contemporary artist Adrian Jacobs played by Adam Goldberg. He is convinced that anything commercial is valueless untill he and his work are picked up by gallery owner Madeleine Gray (Marley Shelton), revealing in a dry, satiric way what happens when these two world collide. Furthermore it mocks the subjectivity of the art world. Check the trailer below:

Fun and so true. Go and see it. Already out in the States, and probably in an arthouse theater close to you soon!

Defendor

OK, it might seem that this is turning into a blog on movies, but as I stated earlier, there are a lot of good movies coming up. One of them is the indie-superhero comedy Defendor, directed by Peter Stebbings. In Defendor Woody Harrelson plays Arthur Poppington, and ordinary guy who believes he as a superhero alterego, and decides to defend the city’s innocents from his arch-enemy Captain Industry with nothing more than his courage and determination.Check the trailer below:

There is no release date yet, but keep an eye on this one. I expect it to be a great one. I’ll keep you posted!
