The BBC is working on another amazing continuation of their Earth series. This time it is an awesome interactive website called Life Is… It focus on the stories of animals, filmed in the stunning way we are used to of the good old beebs.
The screenshots look awesome, but the site hasn’t launched in Europe yet. Keep your eye out on this one. It’ll be worth it. Trust me.
Arcade Fire is taking video clips to the next level. I think this video for their track The Wilderness Downtown is one of the most creative music videos I’ve ever seen. And even the track is pretty good.
Entirely built in HTML5 and built for Google Chrome, it shows an entirely new of making music videos. If you haven’t done it yet, see for yourself. Just enter the adress of where you grew up and enjoy!
Collapsus is a new take on the documentary. This 40 minute documentary, which is available online, sketches our future during what is called ‘peak oil’, the moment oil production is at its maximum. The expected effects of this on our lives and our unavoidable shift to alternative energy sources are the subject of this documentary, which is also described as an ‘energy thriller’.
Interesting, but what makes it special is that it is a ‘hybrid’ documentary. Multiple fictive characters guide the viewer through the storyline through film, animation and interactive elements. A welcome shift from the usual ‘talking heads’ telling the world is going down we see too often if you ask me.
Collapsus was created by the dutch broadcaster VPRO in collaboration with SubmarineChannel. A great project, definitely worth checking out!Have a taste with the trailer below.
It is a fact that people hardly ever interact with homeless people, let alone help them. This campaign shows us how easy it can be to help someone out by a simple text message.
You see a projection of a homeless person laying on the ground, shivering. After texting to the mentioned number the person gets up and goes indoors. Right after that happens you get the opportunity to donate by sending another text message. Especially when you realize the average American teen sends more than 2000 text messages each month, this is a small gesture to make with lots of benefits for the receiver. A beautiful example of interactivity blended into advertising by Sarkissian Mason for Pathway to Housing.
Anthony E. Zuiker, the creator of CSI, has created a new way of intergrating books, the web and movies into one. Meet Level 26. The website level26.com and the Level 26 books (3 titels currently) combine to form a “digi-novel,” a multi-platform experience that moves the reader from passages in the books to videos and interactive content: “As you read the book, you’ll see calls-to-action that direct you to the website to enter codes that unlock Cyber-bridges. These Cyber-bridge movies take the experience to the next level, immersing you in the action and putting you inside the minds of a twisted serial killer and the man sent to take him down.” as they put it on their website. Sounds a bit Hollywood, but the concept is pretty interesting. Besides the story itself there is a large community of readers too. Could this be the future of books?
