Old Spice Rocking Social Media

July 28th, 2010 | Posted in: advertising

I know. It’s been out there for a while, but I just had to share it with you. Old Spice has been busy reinventing itself for a while now, but with their latest effort they have positioned themselves among the greater online campaigns ever if you ask me. After their ‘I’m on a boat’ commercials became a huge hit, their latest effort allowed you to ask the campaigns macho man Isaiah Mustafa any question via Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The crew would select the best questions and make a movie straight away. This resulted in hundreds of video’s, answering the questions of random Twitter users, but also many celebs, like twitter founder Biz Stone, Ellen DeGeneres, Perez Hilton and Ashton Kutcher.

There is just to much out there, so I’m not even making a selection. Just go to the site and check them out! A brilliant piece of advertising.

Pogo: Making Music from Movies

March 24th, 2010 | Posted in: movies, music

This one you have to check out! True brilliance if you ask me. Pogo is an Artist (with a capital A) who takes sounds from a certain movie and turns it into great sounding new tracks. I especially like the one he did for Terminator 2. Each section is composed entirely of sounds from a major scene in the film. Enough talk, just check it out below:

The Auteurs

March 11th, 2010 | Posted in: movies, websites

#1: Why can’t you watch In the Mood for Love in a café in Tokyo on your laptop?
#2: Why is it so hard to meet people who share the same love for Antonioni?
#3: Wouldn’t it be great to instantly send Tati’s Playtime to a friend if you think they needed it? (There’s nothing like film therapy!)
#4: Why do films on the internet just look awful?
#5: Why are we talking as if we were John Cusack in High Fidelity?

These are the five questions that lay at the base of The Auteurs. The Auteurs is an amazing online destination for lovers of independent, foreign and classic film; the ones your local multiplex movie watching factory doesn’t play. An online cinema, anytime, anywhere.

The Auteurs will give you the latest buzz from the Cannes Film Festival or a restored masterpiece personally chosen by Martin Scorsese (he’s a member, too!). A social network that allows you to find a girl in Tokyo who loves Kubrick. The Auteurs enables you to watch, discover and discuss distinctive films from all over the world which would otherwise have passed you by quietly.

Watching a movie will cost you though. So far, I haven’t found any movies over $5,- which I think is a decent price. Going to the cinema of renting the DVD will set you back just as much. I think these guys have found a nice niche market for now, but I’m afraid it is just a matter of time before iTunes or Netflix will take over markets like these. But before that happens, these guys have built a great place for every movie lover out there!

Pumzi

February 3rd, 2010 | Posted in: movies

Here’s a movie that immediatly got me interested. Pumzi is a short film that was written and directed by Wanuri Kahiu, a Kenyan woman who won a grant from Focus Films’ Africa First short film program. The movie tells the story of a distopian future 35 years after water wars have torn the world apart. East African survivors of the ecological devastation remain locked away in contained communities, but a young woman in possession of a germinating seed struggles against the governing council to bring the plant to Earth’s ruined surface. Check the trailer below:

Looking at the trailer it seems the movie has a very cool retro look over it. Furthermore I find it very interesting to see a movie in another setting than ‘The West’.

Currently the movie is being showed at the Sundance Festival in the hopes to find someone who wants to finance the full lengts feature film version. And yes, things like this do happen; Not to long ago a short movie called Alive in Joburg found financiers and was expanded into District 9, of which you might have heard. Keep your eyes on this one!

Alice In Wonderland

The excitement towards the launch of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is slowly being built with the release of the latest trailer:

Again, the looks of the movie keep amazing me, and have me looking forward to the 5th of March 2010…

Saint John of Las Vegas

December 20th, 2009 | Posted in: movies

One of my favorite actors, Steve Buscemi will be back on the screen in January 2010 in Saint John of Las Vegas. The movie, directed by Hue Rhodes tells the story of John (played by Buscemi), a compulsive gambler, who flees Las Vegas after a streak of bad luck and hopes to start a normal job and life. Taking a basic position in an auto insurance company in Albuquerque, he tries to get ahead in the straight world, amid the ever-present temptations of scratch-off lotto tickets…

Looking forward to this one!

Clash Of The Titans

November 18th, 2009 | Posted in: movies

Another epic mythological spectacle coming to a cinema near you soon. Clash of the Titans is a remake of the 1981 original of this movie (with some added CGI I guess) in which Perseus has to defeat both Medusa and the Kraken monster to save his beloved prinsess Andromeda. Perseus is played by Sam Worthington. The movie further stars Gemma Arterton, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. Check out the trailer below:

Looks quite alright to me! Hitting the cinema’s around the world from March 2010.

Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time

November 10th, 2009 | Posted in: movies

Jake Gyllenhaal turns action hero in Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time, based on the video game of the same name. Pretty cool that on of the first videogames I have ever played is still alive and kicking.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Prince Dastan alongside of Gemma Arterton as Tamina, Alfred Molina, Ben Kingsley, and Toby Kebbell.

Hitting theaters from may 28th, 2010.  Judging on the looks of the trailer Disney is taking things pretty seriously. Will this be the follow-up franchise for Pirates of the Caribbean? See for yourselves below:
