Angus & Julia Stone – Down The Way

It’s been a while since I last posted on music. The reason for this is that I haven’t found any albums worth mentioning lately. That was before I heard Down The Way by Angus & Julia Stone. What an album!

Angus & Julia have taken their familiar dreamy folk sound and have perfected it, making Down The Way and ideal Sunday morning chill album, although I can also see myself playing this record over and over driving to the south of France for a surfing holiday. Happy listening!

Lazy Marketers

Something has been bothering me lately. It has become very evident to me that most marketers are extremely lazy, unispired people, who aren’t able to come up with something original. This of course has been like that forever, bombarding us with one-way messages hoping to persuade us to but their middle range products. Based on a total disrespect for the consumer they are targeting. A bunch of middleaged men and women wearing flashy suits deciding what I like. These people have only reached their current positions by defending the status quo within their companies.
What is annoying me the most, is that even today, in the connected society we are living in, this still continues. These people structurally underestimate the consumers they are marketing to. Example: The new album by Eminem. Two tracks have already leaked… Wow, amazing. What do you think we are, retarded? How obvious can it be?
Instead of creating something interesting around this new release by, for example, officially launching these tracks for free to all the true fans who register at his site or buy a concert ticket, they simply push (or should I say: leak) it into the market and hope to create a buzz. Involve the fans people. These are the people buying the songs, tickets to concerts etc. and eventually pay these peoples salaries. Involving them will have them talk about it. Which is what you want in a market in trouble like the recording business. And how do they treat them? They don’t! Missed opportunity.
Please marketers, respect us consumers and bring us something interesting. Get your rusted brain in gear again or quit your job and make way for a younger generation who understand involving consumers and know how to create value through this. Whatever you do, at least put some effort in it!
